FEED BACK ON MUSIC VIDEO

Our peers commented that they liked the idea of the green glow around the artist as it made her stand out and also it showed that she was the focus of the music video. In addition to this they also added that they liked the way we linked the image of her and her boyfriend in the beginning and the end and emphasized what the song was about. Some people felt as if the green outline didn’t go with the video and looked slightly off. Overall our peers thought that our lip sync was consistent which took us a lot of time to make perfect.

CASE STUDIE ONE.

This is the front cover for Beyoncé’s album ‘4’ which shows her in a fierce and dominating pose. She doesn’t make eye contact with the camera which makes whoever is looking at the front cover question what she is looking at. Her posture is somewhat quite provocative but sexy and as she is wearing only a fur scarf to cover only her breast it also adds to the provocatively. However she still seems to look powerful in this shot which helps to emphasise the genre of music and the theme of ‘independence’ for females. Her make-up also helps to add to this concept as it is very noticeable and also matches her wild hair. Her name is written above but also some of the lettering is behind her. This is alright as she is a known artist and her face is recognised. The lettering is bold and quite large which makes it stand out and easy to notice. For our front cover we would use similar lettering as it is eye catching and we do want to get people’s attention, however we wouldn’t use the same pose or costume and make up as it doesn’t fit with the theme of the song and contrast it. This is the inside cover of the album which on the left side photo is a full body image of Beyoncé but she is looking away. The location makes it look as if she is looking over the city like she conkers it and adds to the fact that she is known as ‘Queen B’. Here she is wearing very high heels which have a weird shaped heel which stands out from her top half and emphasises on her legs. In addition to this she is wearing a black bodysuit which also emphasises on her legs also as it is only mainly covering her top half. It links with the front cover as she is still showing skin but is being very classy with it and doing it in a tasteful way, which is what we how we want our digipak to be sexy but still classy. The natural sunlight helps to emphasise on her body as the sunlight is bouncing off her. The actual CD is very basic which I think makes it more effective as the rest of the CD has so much going on in the images, having less on the CD disk pulls it all together. The CD itself is just all red with a large ‘B’ on it to represent the artists’ name. The font is very feminine and also follows the ‘queen b’ concept which makes the theme continues.
On the back of the album cover it shows her in the same location as she was on the inside cover but this time she has her back to the camera and is looking down on the city as if she owns it or is looking down on her empire ( queen theme ones again). Again like the front cover ‘Beyoncé’ is written above her head almost like it’s the last thing that you see and it stays in your mind. Throughout the album she always uses black text which shows consistency and makes it look very professional.
This is the advert for Beyoncé’s album ‘I am… Sasha Fierce’ which shows two separate images which shows her almost switching character from Beyoncé to Sasha Fierce. The close up image helps use to on Beyoncé and nothing else around her. Her poses are both similar but make up in the first image is very minimal whereas in the second image it is very heavy and stands out a lot. Which is also the same with her hair as in the first image it is all back in one and in the second image it is out and looks quite wild. Also in the second image her clothing is very bold and jewellery is also big. In the first image it looks as if she isn’t wearing anything at all which adds to the naturalistic theme in addition to this she also has a rosary on her hand which could show her being good in the first image then going to bad. The lettering is once again bold and stands out as it did on the album and follows the same lettering but just in a different colour. The poster also includes the release date and some of the songs featured on the album which gives buyers a brief idea on what to expect in the album if they were to buy it.

CASE STUDY TWO.

This is the front cover for Ciara’s album where she uses a mirrored image of herself. She’s wearing all black and looks as if she is dancing but got caught up in the moment. We can see this by the way the back of her top is flying upwards. The lettering for the front cover is very basic but is clear so people don’t find it hard to read it. I think that the simplicity of the lettering makes it effective because the background and main image are dark colours and the lettering is in white. The mirrored image could resemble her reflecting on herself and show her growing into a more independent woman and doing things for herself. I think that using a dark studio background is effective because it helps use to focus on the artist more and makes her the centre of attention whereas when using a locational background it takes focus off the artist and makes us look at things around them. For our from cover we will be using a studio shot like Ciara’s as we find that it goes with the concept of our single.
This is the back cover for Ciara’s album. There is a juxtaposing between the front and the back colour wise as the front cover was a dark background and had white lettering whereas the back of the album has a white background and black lettering. It almost looks as if it is two separate CD’s. Ciara’s positioned in the centre of the back cover with her fist up which shows her in an empowering pose which could also show the concept of an empowering independent women in the RnB industry.

CASE STUDY THREE.

This is Rihanna’s ‘LOUD’ digipak, her front cover is an extreme close up of her face with a clear colour scheme of red (as her hair and lips are both a bright red) in addition to this the lettering for the front cover is highly basic and her name is quite faint with the name of the album at the bottom and larger than her name which is situated at the top. Rihanna is able to make her name less obvious than the name of her album as she is a recognised artist and as her face is dominantly on the cover it isn’t hard to tell who the artist is. The actual CD of the digipak is a simple flower which also follows the concept of her digipak which is flower based and quite feminine. The inside of the album is an image of Rihanna lying down on a bed of red roses with her eyes close. The scenery of the inside covers looks slightly like a fairy tale and doesn’t really look as if it goes with the title of the album. However the concept of ‘LOUD’ could be represented through the bright colours she’s used for digipak. In addition to this the whole album follows a girly theme as her make-up is very caked on as she is wearing bright red lipstick and also long thick eye lashes. The lettering for the album is continues and remains the same through which makes not only the theme but also lettering consistent.
The back cover of the ‘LOUD’ album doesn’t follow the same layout as the rest of the album as the location shot looks as if she is back stage or in some kind of recording environment. However she still does have the bright red hair which draws attention to the back cover as much as the rest of the album. Here she is looking into the lens of the camera which makes it seem more intimate to whoever is looking at it. Her posture is arched over the chair and looks slightly awkward the way she is sitting. Her costume is a matching top and bottom and isn’t anything special and just basic everyday summer clothing. She’s also consistent with the lettering on the back of the album as it is the same as the front and the inside too.
This is the one of the adverts for Rihanna’s ‘LOUD’ album. This follows the concept of her album with the red girly theme with the roses. Here she’s wearing sunglass, a fur coat and oversized pink rose ring. She shows an image at the bottom of the actual album which familiarises people with what it looks like for when people go to buy it. This is something that we will be adapting into our magazine advert as we think that it is a smart way for people to be familiar with our album.

TODAY'S LESSON

In today's lesson we started to put the finishing touches into our video and just made sure that the lip sync was correct and in time with the music. In the end we did do this but it was very difficult and found some aspects of this quite challenging.

SONG LYRICS

I love you... I love you... I love you

Baby I love you
You are my life
My happiest moments weren't complete
If you weren't by my side
You're my relation
In connection to the sun
With you next to me
There's no darkness I can't overcome
You are my raindrop
I am the seed
With you and God, who's my sunlight
I bloom and grow so beautifully
Baby, I'm so proud
So proud to be your girl
You make the confusion
Go all away
From this cold and mixed up world

I am in love with you
You set me free
I can't do this thing
Called life without you here with me
Cause I'm Dangerously In Love with you
I'll never leave
Just keep lovin' me
The way I love you loving me

And I know you love me
Love me for who I am
Cause years before I became who I am
Baby you were my man
I know it ain't easy
Easy loving me
I appreciate the love and dedication
From you to me
Later on in my destiny
I see myself having your child
I see myself being your wife
And I see my whole future in your eyes
Thought of all my love for you
sometimes make me wanna cry
Realize all my blessings
I'm grateful
To have you by my side

Every time I see your face
My heart smiles
Every time it feels so good
It hurts sometimes
Created in this world
To love and to hold
To feel
To breathe
To love you

Dangerously in love
Can't do this thing
I love you , I love you, I love you
I'll never leave
Just keep on loving me
I'm in love with you
I can not do
I cannot do anything without you in my life
Holding me, kissing me, loving me
Dangerously
I love you
Dangerously in love

EDITING OUR VIDEO

I found using final cut pro quite difficult but we did manage to get quite a lot done today, such as adding in all our footage and also begun to add in our backing track. We used our case studies from before to help us for inspiration and found this helpful.

CASE STUDY 1.

)

CASE STUDY 1.

The video begins with a close up of Ciara's face whilst she is singing. It then cuts to a full body image of her but only shows her shadow then cuts to a side profile close up of her face whilst her name is shown directly opposite her. This gives off the effect that the words are coming out of her mouth. When she begins to sing the song it shows her walking into a party atmosphere slowly then cuts to a close up of her face. She doesn't sing for this duration and gives off the effect that its telling a story which draws in the audience. It cuts to different things happening in the party whilst she starts to sing along in the party. Everything is very slow moving around her which clearly shows that shes the main character in the video. There is then a wide shot of her and 2 other females dancing, it cuts to different views whilst there dancing but does this rather quickly and is almost unnoticeable.

The music then stops and then begins to tell a little story which is between her and a boy. This is entertaining for the audience watching because it's not only a music video but also a short movie also which is very engaging. The music then begins again and she is shown dancing for the guy who she was previously talking to in a provocative way. The music then stops again and it goes back to the scene where the two are talking, it is then clear to the audience that the previous scene could be a flash forward or something that they are both dreaming about. We can infer this as the male named Future says to the leading lady ' You know your gonna be mine right' which helps us understand that it may have been a flash forward.

CASE STUDY 3.

  • Close up of water slowly coming out of a tap and into the bath. Then cuts to Rihanna undressing which is also a close up and cuts between each of these scenes until it shows her getting into the bath. The camera then slowly pans up towards her whilst she is still in the bath and she is looking down then the song begins. Cuts to an extreme close up of her face as she sings the next lyrics The camera then cuts to different places around her face which is still an extreme close up shot.It then Cuts to a mid close up it shows her crawled up in a ball in the bath singing, it then cuts to close ups of her face coming in from two different angles. The video is very slow and everything seems to be slowed down slightly. In the second verse a white male is shown behind and leaning over very briefly but then cuts to a close up of Rihanna looking upset in the bath. There is then another birds eye view it shows her laying on her stomach in the filled up bath as she continues to sing. The white male which was previously shown is now seen singing and leaning over an empty bath. His wearing a white top and black jeans. His face is unrecognizable as the lighting is very dark making him come across as a very mysterious character and oblivious to the audience. It then quickly cuts a a close up of his face where you can actually see his face and he is still singing. It then cuts to him leaning over the sink looking into a mirror and then quickly cuts to Rihanna in the the bath again, moving around singing along with the male. There is then a close up of Rihanna's face which is then followed by the white male sitting with his hands held together.Overall the concept of the music video is very basic but is still effective and is able to paint out a story. It is clear that the two characters are both very distressed about a current or previous relationship they are in and recapping on it and showing signs that they want this person back in there life even though they don't make them happy.

TASTER LESSON USING DSLR CAMERAS

We have already had a taster lesson where we were shown how to use the DSLR Canon cameras which we will be using for our music video. We were shown how to put together the camera, We were then taught what the settings on the camera were for and what they do. We each had a turn to play around with the focus and record function on the camera.

OUR INSPIRATION

These artists will help us with the concept of our music video and digipak. These artists will also help use to think about what we want our music video to be portrayed as and the kind of concepts behind them. In addition to this these women are very popular in the RnB industry and known for being powerful and independent. They are all very influential, which is what we want our artist to come across as.
